Inquest begins on elevated construction platform deaths in Ontario

January 17, 2024  By CHC Staff

TORONTO – A joint inquest into the deaths of two Ontario construction workers who died after falling from an elevated lift platform has begun this week.

The first incident occurred in August 2016, when 62-year-old Alcides Jose Moyano fell from an elevated construction site platform, with the second inquest concerning the October 2018 death of Hani Habib Ptris, who suffered a similar fate.

As mandated by the Coroner’s Act, Ontario’s Ministry of the Solicitor General has deemed it necessary to convene a joint inquest due to the questions surrounding their deaths. The inquest aims to make recommendations via jury on preventing future incidents of a similar nature and offer a safer working environment in the province’s construction sector.
