Group looks to accelerate net-zero goals in Halifax’s residential construction sector
January 19, 2024 By CHC Staff
HALIFAX – The Building to Zero Exchange (BTZx) initiative has recently launched in Halifax, with the group providing an important cross-sector collaboration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in net zero construction and encourage low-carbon building projects.
BTZx’s focus is on accelerating the residential construction industry toward Canada’s net-zero goals by focusing on building capacity, enabling conditions and climate literacy.
The group was launched in December 2023 by consultant Lara Ryan, who was inspired by a similar west-coast initiative, the Zero Emissions Building Exchange (ZEBx) in Vancouver.
The BTZx is supported by grants and a total of 35 partnerships including EfficiencyOne, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Community College, Clean Foundation, Construction Association of Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Municipality and the Province of Nova Scotia.
