WorkSafeBC has completed its investigation into the deadly crane collapse in Kelowna, B.C., that killed five workers in July 2021, but the criminal investigation by the RCMP is continuing, and WorkSafeBC is not releasing the results of its investigation at this point.
“A decision has been made, in consultation with the RCMP, to not release the WorkSafeBC investigation report publicly, at this time, to ensure it does not jeopardize the ongoing and concurrent criminal investigations,” it said in a press release.
The people killed in the collapse were Cailen Vilness, Eric Stemmer, Patrick Stemmer, Jared Zook and Brad Zawislak.

Though it did point to the fact that, over the last 22 months, it has continued to incorporate key learnings into its crane safety initiatives.
The WorkSafeBC report could be made available to police through judicial authorization, it said.
The RCMP said its investigation is “extensive and complex” and it expects it to continue for what it called an extended period.
“Among some of the complexities of this case, police are working through thousands of pieces of evidence and seized documentation, and consulting with our partners nationally,” it said. “In order to protect the integrity of the criminal investigation, Kelowna RCMP are unable to provide specific details with respect to the investigation at this time.”
