In memoriam: Daniel Norman Wolff, former vice president of engineering for National Crane

LINCOLN, NE – Daniel Norman Wolff, a mechanical engineer and former vice president of engineering for Pennsylvania-based National Crane, passed away peacefully at age 77 on January 15.

Wolff joined National Crane in 1971 as a mechanical engineer, eventually becoming the company’s vice president of engineering and retiring in 2011.

During his tenure, Wolff oversaw the development of many industry-leading crane models, product safety and reliability advancements, along with National Crane’s 2002 relocation from Waverly, NE to Shady Grove, PA following their acquisition from Manitowoc.

Wolff also served as the chairperson for the development of the B30.22 articulating cranes volume of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ (ASME) B30 Crane Safety Codes and Standards. His work with ASME also included contributions on the development of safety codes around mobile cranes and personnel handling.
