Canada Infrastructure Bank supports construction of Nova Scotia wind farm
September 27, 2024 By CHC Staff

WENTWORTH, NS – Elemental Energy’s Higgins Mountain wind farm project in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland County has received a $118 million low-interest loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB).
The CIB stated that this investment will help provide 40,000 homes with clean and intermittent energy. This loan is part of the CIB’s $10 billion program to support Canadian energy projects that are free of greenhouse gas emissions. Construction on the project is currently underway, with the wind farm expected to be operational by late 2025.
Recently, the Higgins Mountain wind farm was among one of three wind farm projects in the province to receive $25 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada, alongside the Benjamin Mills and Wedgeport wind farms.
The project is also one of several wind farms being promoted by the province and Nova Scotia Power Inc. as a key piece in achieving their legislated goal of having 80 per cent renewable electricity on the utility’s grid by 2030.
