Mammoet Canada Western and Irving Equipment win big at the CCRA’s Canadian Lift of the Year awards

The Canadian Crane Rental Association (CCRA)’s 2025 annual conference took place in Edmonton from June 3 to 5, with the Canadian Lift of the Year Awards included among the many panels, industry updates and learning opportunities at the conference.

The Canadian Lift of the Year Awards recognize outstanding lifts from across the country in both the Under 20 Tonnes and Over 20 Tonnes Category.

Curtis Barnett, on behalf of Mammoet Canada Western took home the Canadian Lift of the Year Award in the Over 20 Tonnes Category for the transport and replacement of two Meg EO reactors for Shell Canada in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.

In the Under 20 Tonnes category, Julien Raby of New Brunswick’s Irving Equipment Ltd. was recognized for work on a utility tower in Nackawic, N.B. that had suffered a foundation failure causing the tower to lean to one side and putting its transmissions lines out of alignment.

Each lift was judged by a panel based on the criteria of method of the lift, planning, site and lifting conditions and risk control. Nominees presented their lifts on June 5, with the winners announced at the Conference Gala on June 6.

Other nominees in each category included Prime Movers Rigging and Industrial Services, ABCO Crane Services and Mammoet Canada Western in the Under 20 Tonnes category, with Mammoet Canada Eastern, RKM Crane Service Ltd., Sarens and GUAY also nominated in the Over 20 Tonnes category.

The Gala also saw the presentation of the CCRA’s Lifetime Achievement award to Link-Belt’s Bill Stramer. Stramer is set to retire this year following a 50-year career with the company that has seen him support the industry through a variety of roles, having served as Link-Belt’s senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer support since 2017.
