RESCON happy with Ontario’s fall economic statement
November 15, 2022 By Don Horne
With a massive skilled trades shortage looming, the Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON) is pleased that the provincial government has committed in its fall economic statement to providing an additional $40 million for the Skills Development Fund.
“We cannot lose sight of the fact that up to a third of skilled trades in construction are nearing retirement and reports suggest that 100,000 skilled workers are needed to meet the government’s commitment to build 1.5 million more homes by 2031,” says Grant Cameron, senior director of public affairs, RESCON.
The residential construction industry contributes more than $66 billion to Ontario’s economy, so “we need to ensure we have enough new people coming into the industry,” adds Cameron.
