Pomerleau tapped to lead construction of Que. battery plant

A Montreal-based electric vehicle producer has contracted Pomerleau to oversee the construction of its battery plant and innovation centre.

Lion Electric Company’s $185-million plant will be located at the YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel.

The company broke ground on the 1.6 million-square-foot site in June, and construction is slated to begin soon.

In a statement, Lion Electric says it expects the highly automated factory to reach annual battery production capacity of five gigawatt hours, enough to electrify approximately 14,000 of Lion’s medium and heavy-duty zero-emission trucks and buses.

The plant is expected to start production in the second half of 2022.
