Link-Belt Cranes demonstrates latest and greatest at CraneFest 2018

Link-Belt Cranes hosted close to 1,000 people over five sessions during its triennial CraneFest event. Customers, dealers and media from around the world flocked to the company’s headquarters in Lexington, Ky. to check out the company’s latest and greatest technologies.

The event featured demonstrations of its latest lifting technologies including the 100 RT rough terrain crane, 175|AT all-terrain crane, and a look at the remote capabilities of the TCC-1400 140-ton telescopic crawler crane.

President and CEO Melvin Porter addressed the crowd during the start of the first session, offering a look back at the history of Link-Belt Cranes, as well as an optimistic view of what lies ahead for Link-Belt Cranes.

“We have very strong, successful planning in place,” he told the crowd during the first session of CraneFest festivities. “We have very strong owners in Sumitomo Heavy Industries.”

Porter also addressed the current challenges related to steel and aluminum tariffs.

“We’re just now feeling the impact,” he said, adding that his company is looking for ways to minimize costs by buying domestically but much of the specialized steel and aluminum used in his company’s manufacturing processes is not produced in the U.S.

CraneFest also offered attendees a tour of the company’s 770,000-sq.-ft. factory; dinner at The Grand Reserve and a Kentucky bourbon tasting.
