Huisman has launched a 700mt travelling quayside crane for the load-out of offshore wind turbine components.
The development of the new crane comes as a result of rising demand for large, 2,600mt and 4,000mt Skyhook Cranes for the load-out of foundation pieces and installation of floating turbines, according to Huisman.
“The traditional use of crawler cranes or multiple smaller quayside cranes would require a very large backyard. It also requires the transport vessel to be moored along the quayside for an unnecessarily long time. With this new 700mt Huisman Travelling Quayside Crane, offshore wind ports can be ready for a quick load-out of turbine components in a sustainable manner,” said Cees van Veluw, Product Manager Cranes at Huisman.
The Travelling Quayside Crane is fully electric, allowing for a direct connection to the quayside power grid. This is expected to allow regenerative energy to be directed back into the utility grid which should limit the net energy consumption of the crane, Huisman said.
The crane is designed to travel on a track 16 metres wide, but this can be adapted to local requirements, said Huisman.
It has a 700mt lifting capacity at a radius of 25 metres and the crane also features a dual main hoist which allows for flexible rigging configurations without the need for an extensive portfolio of slings and grommets at hand.
With the Travelling Quayside Crane, the load-out process of offshore wind turbine components can be performed faster compared to the regular methods that involve crawler cranes, or a tandem-lifting by two cranes with a capacity of 200mt to 300mt, said the company.
The crane has a 57-metre long boom which is adjustable for other configurations as well, and a cabin “eye level” at 33-metre height above the quayside.
Optionally, Huisman’s newly launched crane can be equipped with a “lift-off boost” system for increased speed.
