The Canadian Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship Training Council has signed on as Prestige sponsor of an apprenticeship conference in Vancouver this June.

As Prestige sponsor, the joint council supports the member reception at the Apprenticeship: Hands on the Future Council, said an item in a recent newsletter of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum, the conference organizer.

The conference takes place June 5-7 at the Westin Bayshore hotel.

“In Canada, there is a constant demand for well-trained, well-educated tradespeople,” the news letter item said, pointing out that the joint council is “a national body of training institutions driven by the needs of those working in the Canadian construction industry.”

Among its affiliated organizations are International Union of Operating Engineers training Institutes in Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as union locals in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

A biennial event, the conference “will highlight promising practices and innovative solutions in apprenticeship training,” according to the conference website. More than 500 delegates are expected at the three-day event.
